The Government of India is set to introduce a new mobile application for Aadhaar holders, enabling them to update key personal details directly from their smartphones, officials said. The app is being developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and is expected to be available by the end of 2025, according to Financial Express.
The e-Aadhaar application will allow users to modify essential information such as name, address, and date of birth without visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendras. Only biometric changes, including fingerprint and iris scans, will still require in-person verification at designated enrolment centres.
Government sources said the initiative is designed to make the update process faster, reduce paperwork, and improve the accuracy and security of Aadhaar data. Officials highlighted that the platform aims to minimise the risk of identity fraud while offering users a convenient, digital-first solution.
The app will be capable of automatically retrieving verified information from multiple government databases. These include birth certificates, PAN cards, passports, driving licences, ration cards under the Public Distribution System, and MNREGA records. The app may also integrate electricity bill data to simplify address verification.
UIDAI officials stated that the e-Aadhaar app represents a step toward making Aadhaar a fully accessible and secure digital identity platform. By consolidating identity updates into a single mobile application, the government aims to provide a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for managing personal identity records.
